The Bottomley-Ruffing-Schalk Baseball Museum is excited to announce its five-member Honoree Class of 2011.
Springfield natives Jeff Fassero, Tim Hulett, Ryan O’Malley and Dick Schofield, Jr. are among the honorees, along with long-time St. Louis Cardinals player, manager and coach Albert “Red” Schoendienst. All five former major leaguers were honored November 5 during a ceremony and a meal that was open to the public.
Schoendienst is a National Baseball Hall of Famer, having played 19 seasons in the majors, including 15 with the Cardinals. He managed the club for 12 full seasons and was interim manager on two other occasions. He continues to contribute to the organization as a coach.
Fassero won 121 games for nine teams over 16 seasons, while O’Malley was 1-1 for the Chicago Cubs in 2006. Hulett hit .249 during 12 major league seasons while Schofield was a .230 lifetime hitter in his 14 years.
