|Schalk biographer here Oct. 10|
The BRS Baseball Museum is excited to welcome Ray Schalk biographer Brian Cooper to Nokomis for a book signing on Saturday, October 10. The signing will take place from 10 a.m. until noon at the museum, located at 121 W. State St. on Route 16 in downtown Nokomis.
Cooper is the executive editor and editorial board chairman of the Telegraph Herald newspaper in Dubuque, Iowa. He penned a biography of Schalk’s Chicago White Sox teammate Red Faber that was released in 2006. During work on that project, Cooper decided to pursue a biography about Schalk His current book is titled “Ray Schalk: A Baseball Biography”. Cooper will present a program featuring a slideshow on Schalk’s life as well during the event.
Schalk, one of the museum’s namesakes, was born in Harvel and spent considerable time in Litchfield. He was a catcher for the Chicago White Sox from 1912-1928 before playing his final handful of major league games with the New York Giants in 1929. Schalk was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955.
