|Night of Champions a Success|
Almost 100 people gathered at the Nokomis High School gym to celebrate the Night of Champions on June 7, kicking off the Smithsonian exhibit Hometown Teams at the BRS Museum.
Stormy weather prevented Shelbyville representatives from attending, but people were on hand to discuss the 2009 Lincolnwood baseball title team, 1987-88 Pana boys basketball, 2005-06 Hillsboro girls basketball and back-to-back 1997-98 and 1998-99 Nokomis girls basketball teams.
Also honored were the 1995-96 Shelbyville, 1943-44 Taylorville and the 1913-14 Hillsboro boys basketball teams as well as 700-win coaches Steve Kimbro and Neil Alexander, who grew up as friends in Fillmore.
Long-time WSMI sports director Terry Todt emceed the event, which featured a dozen or so players and coaches from the various teams, along with media representative Tom Latonis of the Pana News-Palladium.
Many good stories were re-lived and after the event a number of those in attendance went to the BRS Museum to see the newly unveiled Smithsonian exhibit.
