|Smithsonian Arrival Nears|
The new year brings new opportunities for the BRS Museum and the surrounding area. The museum has been chosen to be one of six Illinois cities hosting the Smithsonian exhibit Hometown Teams. Nokomis will be the host site from June 7 through July 20.
The national exhibit, which will include a detailed look at how sports shape our everyday lives, will be coupled with local exhibits that reflect the central Illinois flavor. Also accompanying the exhibits will be several public humanities programs.
Opening night, June 7, will have a Night of Champions at Nokomis High School, celebrating high school championship teams from six area schools. Also slated during this exhibit will be a kids-centered day headed up by the Nokomis Public Library; a sportswriters' roundtable; an opportunity to have your sports memorabilia appraised; and a sports-themed movie night.
During the Smithsonian exhibit, the BRS Museum will be open daily from noon-9 p.m., with Saturday hours 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
